Cardiovascular disease remains one of Europe’s biggest health challenges – but many recurrent heart attacks and strokes could be prevented through better secondary prevention.
Across Europe, gaps remain in cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose control, treatment adherence and post-event care. LSE research suggests that improving risk-factor target achievement from 43% to 70% across seven European countries could prevent 67,170 fatal cardiovascular events each year, with smoking cessation offering further gains.
In this 60-minute masterclass, Professor Panos Kanavos will examine what stronger secondary prevention could deliver for patients and health systems. The session will explore the policy, pathway and implementation changes needed – and where Life Sciences can support better prevention, adherence and outcomes across Europe.
• Understand the scale of the opportunity from improving secondary cardiovascular prevention across Europe
• Explore the major gaps in risk-factor management, treatment adherence and post-event care
• Examine the policy and system changes that could improve secondary prevention across Europe
• Consider how better data, incentives, rehabilitation and health literacy could support improved outcomes
• Understand the implications for Life Sciences and opportunities to support better prevention and patient outcomes
