Angela Douglas is an inspirational leader with over 42 years of NHS experience. She has served as Deputy Chief Scientific Officer (DCSO) at NHS England and Scientific Director of a Regional Genomics Service. As of December 2023, she is the President of the British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA).
Angela has a strong record in clinical research, medical education, mentoring, and coaching in life sciences. She is passionate about quality assurance, safety, and regulation in science, particularly in genetics and genomics. She graduated from University College London and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and an honorary Fellow of the Academy for Healthcare Science.
Angela has received numerous accolades, including being named one of HSJ’s Top 50 Inspirational Women in 2014 and NHS Healthcare Scientist of the Year in 2015. She was honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire for Research and Mentoring Students in 2016 and has been featured in the Pathologist Power List as one of the top 100 trailblazers. Angela is known for her inclusive, compassionate, and kind leadership and is dedicated to bringing out the best in those she works with.
