Following the Health Select Committee’s report on the First 1000 Days of Life, which raised concerns about vaccination uptake across England, addressing declining childhood vaccination rates has become a priority for the UK government, with the House of Lords Childhood Vaccination Committee expected to publish its report by November 2026.
In this 60-minute masterclass, vaccination and Public Health expert Richard Vis will consider what recommendations may come out of that report and how its recommendations might translate to immunisation policy in 2027 and beyond. The session will explore the factors driving declining vaccine uptake, regional inequalities in access and the policy options being considered to reverse these trends.
There has also been considerable recent focus on Immunisation Equity Strategy by both the UK Health Security Agency and the NHS to improve vaccination rates among underserved groups. Richard will explore the resulting recent changes to the childhood immunisation programme, review the recommendations and consider what could be implemented in 2027/28 following the publication of their report towards the end of this year.
