Respiratory disease is an NHS Long Term Plan clinical priority, which describes how investment will be targeted to improve treatment and transform care.

Affecting one in five people and the third highest cause of death in England, hospital admissions for lung diseases have risen three times the rate of general admissions over the past seven years. Add to this the economic cost – asthma and COPD are estimated at £3 billion and £1.9 billion respectively, and in total all lung conditions (including lung cancer) cost the NHS in the UK £11 billion annually – and we begin to see the extent of the challenge.

How should companies that provide products and technologies in respiratory care respond to the increasing burden of respiratory disease and its demands on NHS providers?
